Retail and restaurant locations see a lot of customers and are open to guests for long hours. Nordstrom knew that they needed to refresh their seating both upstairs inside their Cafe Bistro and downstairs throughout their departments. The problem was figuring out how to make it happen without closing down or working in the middle of the night.

Fortner worked with the Nordstrom team to find a solution by breaking the project up into sections. This allowed for the locations to continue generating revenue by staying open while the Fortner team worked on a handful of pieces at a time.

Fortner planned everything out so that Nordstrom was on a schedule of picking up furniture from the site, reupholstering the pieces at the Fortner shop, then installing the newly recovered pieces back during the morning hours before the store and cafe opened to the public. Small sections of the cafe were unavailable for seating throughout thus resulting in only a small inconvenience to customers compared to shutting down completely.
