PASSED DOWN FOUR GENERATIONS

What started in a small garage on the South side has flourished into one of the biggest commercial furniture businesses in the midwest.

WE’RE A FAMILY BUSINESS & WE ALWAYS HAVE BEEN

It all began during the Great Depression.

Our founder, David Fortner, was born without the ability to hear and speak. But he refused to let that slow him down. A gifted craftsman, David turned to reupholstering chairs for his livelihood—working as a one-man-show in the garage out back.

Ninety years later, David’s tiny neighborhood operation has grown into one of Ohio’s largest furniture and upholstery companies.

While we’ve evolved throughout the years and now serve some of the biggest names in business across the country alongside our residential clients, one thing hasn’t changed: We’re still family-owned and -operated—guided by the vision of David’s great grandchildren.

BACK TO OUR ROOTS

ON THE SOUTH SIDE

We breathe life into old things — like the 240,000 - square - foot complex we call home. Constructed in the late 1800s as a horse-drawn fire carriage manufacturing plant, The Fort now houses our showroom and workshop. In 2017, we made the move back to Columbus’ south side, right around the corner from David Fortner’s garage.
